I know what you’re thinking. A post about TURKEY? I just wanted to share my excitement and pure joy with all of you. I asked over a dozen people about how to cook the perfect turkey. Everyone has their own special method so I was still unsure up to the last minute. Some people said baste the turkey every hour, others said make a foil tent. I made a last minute decision to go with my Aunt’s tried-and-true turkey recipe since I’ve indulged in her turkey many times and it was always so moist and delicious. Another big reason why I decided to go with her method was because it was a ‘set it and forget it’ type deal. No basting, just pop it and hope for the best. I wanted to sleep on Christmas Eve, for at least 5 hours…so I thought, perfect! Funny story though – I had about 2 hours of sleep on Christmas eve because I put the turkey in at 2am and had other dishes to cook such as a macaroni casserole, stuffing, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. I was on a mission. A mission to deliver an amazing turkey dinner with all the fixins for my family lunch potluck. I wish had taken more photos of all the dishes I made but sadly, I was exhausted and half delirious once I completed them all. It was alot of fun and I learned how to make a delicious turkey. My family loved it. Mission Accomplished! Christmas Baking December 23, 2012 • family & friends , personal • by Amy 0 Comments I’ve been baking non-stop since last night. This afternoon is my annual girlfriends Secret Santa Extravaganza. I’m giving them each some homemade chocolate chip cookies. I wouldn’t call myself a baker but I found this super-cute craft ribbon which I love. HOHOHO, Merry Christmas! Less Than 5 Days Until Christmas December 19, 2012 • decor , my home , personal • by Amy 0 Comments Are you ready? I’m almost there. 3 more presents to buy as well as baking and wrapping to be completed. It will definitely be a hectic few days up until Christmas. But I’m not complaining, I love every minute of it. Also, I just came home from buying an 18lb turkey. Who the heck picks an 18lb turkey for their first attempt at Christmas dinner? Apparently, I do. Every time I think about cooking this gigantic bird I remember that dinner scene from National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. I took the liberty of including the clip below in order to fully illustrate what has been going through my mind the past couple of weeks. Oh, and if you haven’t seen National Lampoons Christmas Vacation PLEASE go watch it. It’s hilarious! Below are a few images of Christmas around my home. Loving my new feather wreath from West Elm! Family Photoshoot December 11, 2012 • family & friends , personal , photography • by Amy 0 Comments My cousin Tracey wanted to do a winter photoshoot a couple of weekends ago. We weren’t blessed with any snow, but boy was it ever cold! Needless to say, I had to move as quickly as possible since frostbite was starting to kick in. Below are some of my favourite shots from that day: Living Room Progress December 9, 2012 • interior design , my home , personal • by Amy 0 Comments After 2 years of living in our condo, I’m happy to report that our living area is almost complete. I knew I wanted something soft, stylish yet comfortable and the most difficult part was figuring out how I was going to achieve that in such a small space. I really gravitate towards a clean and classic white & grey palette with hints of colour so I knew it definitely had to be a light colour scheme. So after trying 5 different , 4 different coffee tables and 3 different wall treatments we’ve finally decided on this… We still need to accessorize with some colourful pillows and strip our teak coffee table but so far so good. I’m beyond excited! Furniture Friday – The Klismos Chair December 7, 2012 • furniture , furniture friday • by Amy 0 Comments Today I would like to touch on one of the most influential pieces of Greek furniture, the Klismos Chair. Created in Ancient Greece and perfected around 5th century BC, this chair has remained popular in the design world for centuries. Interestingly, there isn’t one antique Klismos Chair to be found anywhere in the world today. Due to its solid wood construction, the Klismos as well as other furniture used by the Greeks disappeared due to the damp atmosphere which make it impossible for natural materials to survive. In fact, most of our information about Grecian life has been derived from vases and marbled reliefs. Below is a photo of a tombstone recovered from Ancient Greece: Source: Wikipedia Some distinct characteristics of The Klismos include: sweeping curved lines curved front and back legs open chair back concave crest rail solid splat Here’s a variety of Klismos inspired chairs popular today: Source: Metropolitan Museum of Art Source: Restoration Hardware Source: The Anziano Chair Source: Coucill Source: Era Interiors Chicago Architecture December 3, 2012 • architecture , art & design , photography • by Amy 1 Comment December is here and I’m really missing the warm weather. While looking through my catalogue of photos I remembered one of the hottest and most humid days I’ve ever experienced. Surprisingly, it was during our trip to the windy city. I’ve felt the caribbean sun on me before, but the heatwave in Chicago was so brutal to walk around in. And you can’t necessarily wander the streets in a bikini sipping cocktails! So as I sat at my desk reminiscing, dressed in a sweater and track pants, I happily browsed through sweaty pictures of my boyfriend and I, along with hundreds (yes hundreds) of architectural photos. All that walking in extreme heat was definitely worth it. There was so much beauty to see and appreciate. My fave building: The Carbide and Carbon Building which was built in 1929 – classic Art Deco design.
