I’ll be leaving for Costa Rica in 11 days! This trip has got me thinking about tropical prints and bright colour. It’s so interesting to see how the colour trends in fashion influence home decor and I do believe it could be vice versa as well. The 2 worlds definitely influence one another and it’s especially evident this season. Sources: 1. Westin Playa Conchal , we’re coming! 2. Carnaby Nesting Trays 3. Ankle Strap Sandal 4. Peggy Knit Shift Dress I’m loving the bright dresses and shoes and I’m determined to find something ultra-feminine and colourful to wear to this destination wedding. Have you added any colour to your home or closet for Spring? Anyone in the mood to go shopping? Wishing everyone a good long weekend and Happy Easter! Project Louis Update March 26, 2013 • furniture , my louis xvi chair • by Amy 8 Comments I still remember my first upholstery class like it was yesterday. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I have to say the entire experience was amazing and truly eye-opening. Now I understand why it is SO expensive to professionally reupholster chairs! This is a skilled craft that when done correctly, can protect your chair from sagging and just general wear and tear. I learned about tightening springs, choosing the right upholstery fabric, how to use a magnetic hammer (total stress reliever by the way) and so much more. And these are just the basics, there’s so much more to learn. I’m happy and excited to see how far Louis has come. Last night was my last class and I finally managed to get my new cushion on and wrapped with canvas. Most students don’t manage to finish their pieces with one course, especially if it’s an elaborate chair or setee. I’m actually pleased with how far I’ve come considering I’ve only been working on it one night a week. But back to the foam…instead of regular foam I’ve used these wonderful soft layers of cotton batting. It feels so soft and luxurious and much more durable then my current Ikea dining chairs. This canvas fabric is the last step before putting on my fabric. WOO HOO! Do you remember what Louis looked like before? You can see other posts about Project Louis here . But here’s a quick before shot: I feel like a proud mother. Now the question is, do I sign up for another class or give it a shot on my own? How will I get the fabric on myself without ruining the foundation and all that hard work? EEK! Furniture Friday – Banquette Update March 22, 2013 • decor , furniture , furniture friday • by Amy 8 Comments Happy Friday! Today I am so excited to share a sneak peak of my parents updated dining area. It’s coming along quite nicely. For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, my parents (well, my Dad) is a serious DIYer and their current project is to: Update the kitchen with a modern look and create additional storage and seating with a custom banquette . You can see our inspiration photos here and learn a little more about the project here . Below are some really gross before shots of their kitchen. As you can see, there’s a TON of wood. In all colours. The cabinet in the far right corner is going, tables and chairs are posted on Kijiji and saying bye-bye to that hideous desk as well. It looks so out of place, a fresh coat of paint and some new drawer handles would liven that thing up a bit. Anywho, it doesn’t belong in the kitchen so nice knowin’ ya orange desk. And here are the ‘in progress’ photos. Doesn’t it look 100 times better already? I think the crisp white banquette adds a breathe of fresh air and the simple fabric and grey wall look so much more modern and relaxing. I can’t wait to show you the new table and chairs, a new lighting fixture and also how we’re going to introduce some colour. Watch out for the final reveal coming soon! I’d love to hear what you guys think so far. What kind of table and lighting fixture do you think would go well in this area? Have a great weekend everyone! xo A Perfect Hawaiian Wedding March 21, 2013 • decor , personal , photography • by Amy 5 Comments Have you ever been to an unforgettable wedding? I had the opportunity to watch my oldest girlfriend marry her soulmate in Honolulu, Hawaii. It was hands-down the most beautiful wedding I have ever seen. For some reason I was thinking about weddings today (not hinting at anything, I swear) and hers was stuck in my mind. Not only because she’s one of my oldest and dearest girlfriends, but also because she’s decor obsessed just like me. She has great style and I wanted to highlight all the beautiful little details she managed to serve up during her wedding. It’s these small personal touches that really make my heart skip a beat. So lets begin shall we? First, check out the hanging polaroids. They were my fave. You locate your photo and on the back would be your table number. Genius! Here’s one of my girlfriends snatching hers… And here’s mine! You turn around and BAM! Check out this beautiful tent surrounded by palm trees and beautiful greenery… Inside the tent hangs beautiful paper lanterns and centrepieces with driftwood and coral… White chrysanthemums and coral roses…love the placecards too! And check out where the ceremony took place. Could you not have a better view? Oh and that large basket near the back was holding umbrellas! They did come in handy since it did rain for a little bit but the sun quickly peeked it’s head through and we were blessed with beautiful weather. The programs were hanging on each chair and fans and handkerchiefs were also provided (super cute, no?)… I have to say that the programs were beautifully done. Great design, paper quality and the die-cut was so pretty. Something a graphic designer can truly appreciate. In fact, I still have mine! These were her giveaways for you to take home. A photographer would snap a photo of each couple and it was later mailed to you to display in this beautiful frame. Here are some additional photos. Her brother singing and playing the ukulele: And of course, the handsome couple, Beryl and Ed with their son Jayden: What an amazing wedding, I’m so happy I was able to share that special day with them! Wasn’t I right about the details? Have you been to any unforgettable weddings or events? Wallpaper Envy March 20, 2013 • decor • by Amy 5 Comments Lately I’ve been drooling over pretty wallpaper.
