I really hate getting sick because it messes with my schedule and I feel absolutely useless. I want to do my laundry, continue with bootcamp classes and finish my Louie chairs but my body is saying, WOMAN. YOU CRAZY. It’s been go-go-go lately and it’s definitely catching up to me. My time in bed has got me thinking about my upcoming vacation. Some good friends of ours will be getting married in Costa Rica and we are booked! They are true adventure seekers so I’m sure some ziplining and other fun stuff will be on the itinerary. I can’t wait to explore the rainforest, the surrounding towns and of course lie on the beach for some much needed R&R. Also, this looks interesting: via National Geographic . And speaking of tropical, check out the packaging on these babies. My cousin gave me the cutest flip flops for Christmas; designer ones to boot. Never thought I’d own a pair of Tory Burch flip flops and now I get to sport them this summer (Thanks again Jing if you are reading this). I’m in love with their branding. I’m such a sucker for great packaging too. I can’t even bring myself to throw out the bag or the box. The vibrant colour and bold pattern is absolutely stunning and definitely puts me in the mood for some fun in the sun. Have you been to Costa Rica? Any suggestions on where to go and what to see? January 25, 2013 • furniture friday , personal • by Amy 2 Comments I just wanted to send a big thank you to all my family and friends that have been supporting me from day one and continue to encourage me to keep doin’ what I’m doin’. All the comments and sweet emails really do mean alot to me. Also, welcome to all my new subscribers, thank you for signing up! I’m not exactly sure where this blog will take me, but what I do know is that it makes me very happy to be creative in my own way, and be able to share it with you all. And, since today is technically supposed to be Furniture Friday, I’m throwing in a couple of photos from my last upholstery class. I promised I would show some other chairs in my class so here they are. Warning: these photos are NOT pretty. One couple brought in a set of beautiful french chairs… Doesn’t this look scary? This one had a beautiful tufted back. It looked similar to a Bergere chair but there was no exposed wood frame nor was there a loose cushion on the seat. The sweet lady working beside me brought in a family heirloom. I think this would look so lovely with a tufted cushion in a bold or neutral fabric. And of course, my little Louie. The amount of staples on this chair is INSANE. Starting class 3 on Monday and I’m still removing staples. Almost there! (I hope!) And that’s all folks. I stop for a dose of inspiration. Sometimes all it takes is a 10 minute stop at a local vintage shop to get my creative juices flowing. Now that my living room is pretty much done and my dining area won’t be complete until my Louie chairs are re-upholstered (ETA: before summer), it’s time to move on to the next room. That is our office/guestroom. It’s super tiny and has 2 functions so I’d love to re-organize everything and dress it up a little. Right beside one of my fave vintage shops (Stella Luna), is an antique shop called Era. Located at 1629 Queen Street West, they are just a stones throw away from the Queen West Antique Centre. Walking into this store got me thinking about lighting. They had several beautiful chandeliers but I was drawn to their beautiful table lamps. Every desk and guestroom needs a good lamp and some of these were so cool: I especially loved this black and gold one. The detail on the base was amazeballs. Aaaand, seeing that lamp at the store prompted further research on my part. Are you noticing a pattern here? I believe anything can be done on a budget. Whether it’s brand new or second hand, my goal is to find a funky lamp for under $30. I’m up for the challenge. What do you think my friends, is it doable? Colour In My Living Room January 22, 2013 • decor , my home , photography • by Amy 0 Comments via Sara Tuttle Interiors I’ll be honest. I find colour a little scary at times. Sounds insane coming from a graphic designer but decorating is a whole different beast. With graphic design, you can go through dozens of mockups and nothing is ever really final unless it’s going out for print. Changing the colour of your entire website or correcting a typo online takes minimum effort whereas painting a room can takes hours and you won’t even know if it’s the right colour until the paint has dried completely, and you’ve seen how the colour can look different during the day and the evening. I find that a tad scary and it’s a problem for me. I’m indecisive, a little impatient at times, and I just can’t commit. I tend to lean towards a grey and white palette because I love how clean and calm it feels. I try to stay away from anything too trendy because I know I’ll eventually get tired of it. But after 2 years of living in my condo, I’ve finally decided on an accent colour: blue (well, more navy blue). It’s a versatile colour that goes well with black and white, and also pops of pink and gold that make appearances around my home. Blue is also the only colour my boyfriend and I could agree on. Your man has to love it too, right? So after deciding on an accent colour, I wanted to get them on our walls. I take alot of photographs and I managed to find 2 perfect images to blow up for our living room. The one on the left was taken in Toronto while the other photo was taken on a trip to Hawaii. The second photo was actually the result of my shutter speed set too low on my camera. I usually trash these photos directly from the camera but the colours appealed to me and I’m so glad I
