I’m so excited to share some progress on Project Dressing Room. We’ve started sourcing some key pieces and have made our first furniture purchase this week. We actually took a trip to The Singing Lady and Ikea a couple of weeks ago to see if we could get some ideas to get the ball rolling. Here’s what we found: The brass and black chandy is definitely a contender. We also decided the Billy Bookcase is the way to go. It’s cost-effective, the shelves are adjustable which would accommodate heels and boots and it’s the perfect depth for Anh’s shoe size. A chaise or ottoman has always been on her must-have list so one of those will definitely make an appearance. Wallpaper will be used either behind the shelving or on a feature wall. Anh requested something graphic and I’ve been dying to use the Triangles wallpaper by Lisa Congdon . Yummy! So here is what I’m thinking for the room: I know it looks pretty white right now but I’m thinking the open shelving and clothing rack will bring a lot of colour into the room. Of course the accessories will also bring in additional colour and texture. We scored that exact desk chair recently, but we will be updating the look with some paint and new upholstery. I’ve also gathered some paint samples this week so that will be happening very soon. Super excited about #projectdressingroom! Have a great weekend all! Photos From The Christie Antique Show May 29, 2013 • decor , furniture , vintage love • by Amy 4 Comments Going to these shows is fun but also a little dangerous for me. I always seem to fall in love with something and there’s so many different things to see. I decided to photograph my journey through the different vendors and booths. Below are some of the cool things I saw there: Loved these bright lanterns. It’s a great way to add colour and character to a kitchen or bedroom. This buddha was amazing. Doesn’t he look so jolly? You can’t see it but the sticker read ‘priceless’. Of course I didn’t leave without rubbing his belly for good luck. I loved these white ice cream chairs. I can picture this set on a cute balcony or patio. Railroad crossing sign? Would love to put something cool like this on my living room wall but definitely out of my budget. Okay, this would have creeped me out as a child. Now I think they’re kinda cute. There was tons of hobnail, depression glass and brass everywhere. I must have spent 40 mins at this booth just touching and looking at all the letterpress blocks. I love the look and feel of letterpress on paper. I snagged a few blocks which I plan to use to create some custom cards. I loved this chair, especially the cane back. And of course these large letters got my attention! This old drawer pull and bustform lampshade was also photo worthy… And of course, more chairs… And then I came across this beautifully styled booth by Eclectic Pelican Antiques . They had these cute business cards that had french words on one side and the translation on the other. LOVE! Wayne, the gentleman at the booth was so sweet and even gave me one of their beautiful canvas bags. And here are my purchases for the day. 2 pieces of depression glass for an upcoming photoshoot that I’m styling and four letterpress blocks for some custom cards I will be creating. Christie Antique Show Highlights May 27, 2013 • decor , vintage love • by Amy 8 Comments I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Besides catching a cold that has left me bedridden (damn you, weather) I had a great time at Christie. Highlights from the show include the blogger meetup that was coordinated by Jen from Rambling Renovators . It was so great to finally meet her and pick her brain about a few blogging questions I had. I also met 3 other lovely lady bloggers: Laura , Kisha and Pam . Had a great time chatting it up with them and checking out their finds! The other highlight of my day was meeting this guy… Tommy Smythe! He’s one of my favourite designers (even wrote a post about him here ). Honestly, my heart skipped a beat when I saw his face but I tried to remain cool when I asked for a photo. What a serious dork I am. But he’s super duper nice and told me that he loves taking pictures with fans who are his height. LOVE! I know. Serious closeup. Courtesy of Mama but can’t blame her: had the wrong lens on. Back to School and Weslodge May 24, 2013 • decor , gastronomic delights , interior design , personal • by Amy 4 Comments For over a year now I’ve been toying with the idea of going back to school part-time. I’ve always had some type of excuse like no money, no time, no energy. But no matter how many times I’ve tried to erase that idea from my mind, something kept pulling me back to the same bookmarked pages of course offerings. So a couple of months ago I decided to just go for it! I figure if you really want to do something (and by something I mean Interior Decorating), you have to go after it and let nothing stand in your way. I don’t have children yet so what better time than now. I must say it was a little intimidating going back to school in your early cough thirties but I’m up for the challenge and cannot wait to learn my A$$ off! On another note, have any of you been to Weslodge on King West? I checked it out last weekend and absolutely loved the decor. via Weslodge I was greeted by the cool sign out front and that huge yellow door. Loved it. I walked in and was pleasantly surprised. It was totally unexpected, decorated like a modern saloon complete with taxidermy on the walls, old portraits and the staff were even wearing leather holsters. via Weslodge I loved the antique pendants overlooking the bar area… via Weslodge But the floor, oh the floor. That’s what got me. It was gorgeous. I just love the spanish tile in black and white. I would LOVE to do a kitchen using a similar tile. Sorry for the dark photos but you can still see how pretty that
