Have fun and be safe! xo Follow my blog with Bloglovin Thrifted Thursday with Pam of Cherish Toronto June 27, 2013 • decor , furniture , thrifted thursday • by Amy 3 Comments I had the pleasure of meeting Pam at the Christie Antique Show in May and I’ve been a loyal follower of her blog ever since. The first image that grabbed my attention on her blog was this beautiful campaign dresser so I was so ecstatic when she told me that she had chosen this piece for #ThriftedThursday! So without further ado, take it away Pam… Thank you so much for inviting me to participate in your Thrifted Thursdays series. Thrifting is one of my favourite past times, and I have found a lot of great things over the past couple of years, but one item really stands out as my BEST find. Fave Thrifted Find: Dixie Campaigner 7 Drawer Campaign Dresser Where is this piece from? I found this dresser at Value Village, specifically at my favourite location not far from my office. I just happened to pop in one day during the lunch hour and it turned out to be my lucky day! What drew you to this piece? At first I didn’t recognize this piece as being a great score. Although the dresser had the telltale brass accents, all of the handles were missing. Imagine how excited I got after opening the top drawer to find the manufacturer’s original hang tag and a brown paper bag containing all 12 handles neatly wrapped in tissue paper. This piece was brand new!! I ran to the nearest employee and told them not to sell the dresser to anyone else, it was SOLD. Describe any work you did to give it new life: I didn’t do any work on the dresser for 9 months because I was in limbo about what colour I wanted to paint it. Once I settled on a rug for the living room, I was finally able to choose a paint colour by pulling inspiration from the rug’s pattern. I went with Blue Box from Para Paints, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I lightly sanded the dresser, primed it, gave it two coats of paint and finished up with five coats of Minwax Polycrylic gloss to protect the finish. How do you use or display the item: I use the dresser as an entertainment and storage unit in my living room. The tv sits on top while the DVD player and Wii are hidden in the top drawer (I cut a hole in the back to run the wires). With so many drawers I am also able to stash away all of my DVD’s, CD’s, games, camera equipment and extra candles. Bonus: The small table to the left of the dresser was also thrifted from Value Village, I just sprayed it gold to freshen it up! Also, the brass candlesticks in the photo were found at the Salvation Army Thrift Store. So many great finds!! What do you think folks? I say this is a pretty amazing find! I love how Pam went with a bold colour, it really makes the dresser a nice focal point in the room. I’m also in love with her rug, the colours are beautiful and it ties everything together so nicely! And lastly, those bonus items? I love how she threw those into the mix as well – those brass candlesticks are perfection. I want a pair! If you haven’t already, make sure to check out Pam’s Blog, Cherish Toronto . She also has a cool DIY for faux bamboo bedside tables . Check it! Project Designer Swap June 26, 2013 • fashion • by Amy 3 Comments I’m super excited to share one of the many projects I’ve been working on for months now. One of my besties just launched her own fashion blog and I was thrilled when she approached me to help out with the creative direction. My background is in graphic design and marketing so throw fashion into the mix and I get super excited! The blog features Anh and Linh, 2 sisters who are a decade apart but share the same love for fashion and designer consignment pieces. Since they are similar in size, they share the same closet. Ummmm, isn’t that amazing? I wish I had a sister to share clothes with, imagine how much money you would save! So make sure to check out Designer Swap and see how two sisters swap their favourite items and rock them in their own unique way. On another note, don’t forget to check back tomorrow for another edition of #ThriftedThursday. Wait until you see this next thrift find, it’s a goodie! Also, if you missed the first one with the lovely Laura Collins , you can check it out here . Happy Hump Day! Have an awesome day xo First Summer Weekend! June 24, 2013 • decor , my home , personal • by Amy 8 Comments Summer is here! Now that we finally have some warm weather I get to hang out on my balcony (which is almost complete) and I’m happy to say that my outdoor plants are still alive. I was starting to lose hope with all the rain and cold weather but they fought through and are looking much more lively! I made a stop at The Bay on the weekend and I loved their little summer dining display. The colourful plates and foliage has really got me inspired. I haven’t worked with many bright colours before so doing up the balcony is going to be tons of fun (you can see a glimpse of it in the top right photo). I’m also looking forward to using the pool in our complex which when you’re in it you get a fabulous view of the 2 marilyn towers. Way to get inspired while you’re floating in the pool! Summer for me means birthday bbq’s, mini-vacays, softball with the cousins and the #bluejays. I’m a big jays fan and they’re currently on an 11-game winning streak! What are you excited for this summer? Thrifted Thursday Series June 20, 2013 • decor , furniture , thrifted thursday , vintage
